Attention: Information on Car Taxes

The City of Pawtucket is holding off on sending motor vehicle taxes until we receive more clarity from the State. We want to get this right and not cause additional confusion for you or any taxpayers in the future.

Rather than issuing vehicle tax bills now to over 50,000 people, and potentially overcharging taxpayers, the City will generate bills depending on the passage of the RI Budget. The deadline for first quarter payment of car tax bills will be extended to accommodate the delay.

The City of Pawtucket traditionally accepts various forms of payments; cash, checks, money orders, and credit cards, however due to COVID19 Pandemic, Pawtucket urges Citizens to make payments by Check, Money Order,  or Credit Card as much as possible.  We do recognize there are circumstances that make it necessary to use cash, which we do accept that form of payment as well.

The City Collector's Office processes Real Estate, Personal Property/Tangible, and Motor Vehicle taxes. The office also is a depository for all city receipts. The determination of the amount of tax you pay (valuation, levy, exemptions) is made by the City Assessor.

Bill Distribution:

Real Estate and Tangible Tax Bills are mailed annually in late June, so if you do not have a bill by Independence Day, contact our office for assistance. State law does not require the City to send a tax bill.

Tax Sale Pre-Registration Form

Pre-qualification of bidders, pursuant to R.I.G.L. 44-9-13, shall be conducted beginning May 9th, 2019 until May 31st, 2019 from 9:00am to 3:00 p.m. at the Collections Office at 137 Roosevelt Ave, Pawtucket RI 02860. Mail in registration will be provided upon request. The City reserves the right to accept or reject bidder registration forms for failure to register pursuant to the instructions. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Access to Public Records Act, R.I.G.L. 38-2-1 et seq.

• All forms must be received by the City of Pawtucket by 3:00 P.M. on May 31, 2019.
• No bidder registration forms will be accepted the day of the lien sale.
• The City reserves the right to accept or reject bidder registration forms for failure to register pursuant to the instructions.
